Tulsa

  1. All Outpatient transfusions are given through the Hematology Services of St John Medical Center, Inc., Monday through Friday, between 8:00am to 5:30pm. (excluding holidays).
  2. The physician or physician's office must schedule these outpatient transfusions in advance with Hematology Services: (918)744-2070.
  3. The patient can be sent to any RML drawing site to have the specimen drawn; however, the specimen should NOT be drawn more than 72 hours in advance of the date of transfusion. This time frame is used so in the event of an adverse reaction to the transfusion, the Blood Bank would have a valid specimen to work with.
A Blood Bank ID bracelet with a SJMC medical record number must be placed on every patient scheduled for outpatient transfusion.
RML personnel must check with SJMC Admissions (918)744-2688, to see if the patient has a previous medical record number. If not, one is to be requested from them and used in place of the RML number. The medical record number is to be used on the Blood Bank ID bracelet as well as any paperwork.
  4. When generating an order, it is of utmost importance that the physician's order uses the patient's legal name and correct birth date. This information is vital to both the hospital and Blood Bank as they search their files for any prior records on a patient and that information is also used as a means of identification.
